PhD Grind: I’m so Extra??

Random but important !!

Don’t ever let people make you feel bad for spending time on your notes/making your notes look more etc. Our even something you’re doing in your current endeavors. So many times I’ve had people say ‘that’s a waste of time’ or ‘you’re so extra’ and it just like….. Wtf.

If spending an extra 2-5 minutes to make your notes look a little organize is going to help you learn them better, or even if it just makes studying tolerable then that’s okay??? Keep doing it!!

There’s honestly no worse people than the people who will try and make you feel bad about doing something you want to do.

How I Fell Back In Love With Metalcore.

At that strange stage in you’re life. The stage where you’re most likely in High School and worrying about what others may think of you or where you exactly fall in line in perspective as in social groups I’ve lost my way I guess you can say. As a young black teen living in Southern Louisiana, the majority of my ethnic group (around 98%) listened to rap, and that it. My other “close” friends was into country. You was kinda shunned away if you was into metalcore or Rock because you seem “unstable.” And the people that did dressed in all black, I guess you could call them emo or scene kids. Anyways. Me trying to fit in with the “normal” people cause me to steer away from a genre that I loved. I honestly love all genre of music, just as long as I can vibe with it.

Fast forward the clock, I’m just out here living life. My friend Mendoza that was also in the Army at the time told me to listen to this group that was becoming big called Crown The Empire. He told me go and check out their EP Limitless. And before you know it, I’m downloading the rest of their albums, and checking in on other bands like Memphis May Fire, Bullet for my Valentines, and A Day to Remember.

It’s funny. It’s funny looking back at things and just thinking. “God. I was such a idiot to deviate from something I liked just worrying about getting judge.” Worrying about something so petty could’ve steer me in the wrong path and I probably missed meeting some pretty cool fucking people. So let’s all take time and revisit stuff you’ve love and you also can fall back in love with it.

P.S: I know Crown the Empire gets a lot of crap for being a shitty metalcore band, but they’ll still my favorite right now and had been for the past two years 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽

Sorry for the absentee, but I’ve been busy!

This week I have been getting DMs and emails wondering if I have quit blogging. The answer to that is I have not quit, I’ve been really busy, and it’s also why I haven’t been tweeting much of late. Since grad school classes began I just don’t have time. Currently, I’m writing this blog post while at work, and not on my free time. Here’s a look into my schedule Mon-Fri.

5:30am: Wake up, grab my pre-workout smoothie I made the night before and head out to the box (Crossfit)

6am-7:30: Crossfit workout

7:30am-9am: Morning hygiene, breakfast, get to uni for work.

9am-5pm: Work doing research and mentoring interns.

5pm-7pm: Grad school classes/study

7pm-10pm: Personal/friend/nightlife time, hygiene, study for army aviation test, get ready for tomorrow.

Please note that I’m horrible at going to bed on time. In a perfect world, I would like to be in bed eyes shut by 10pm, but between hanging out, and silly stuff like group texts it’s usually way later. This past week I’ve been going to bed around 12. My days are long, but It’s filled with stuff that I love to do and goals I want to achieve, so it’s worth losing sleep over.

And there you have it! I’m going to try and blog more. I still have to do last month loot crate box and stuff. I will try and get to them. Thanks for the concern, but you guys can’t get rid of me yet.

Finals Week!

May… The month when most students are stressed the fuck out. Definitely if you waited last minute to try and learn everything at the end. Just completed my 1st semester in grad school, and I have to say I’m proud of myself. When I took a full time job back in August I really didn’t know how this semester would work out. However, I was able to attend college, work full time, stay committed to my fitness with crossfit, and keep a social life. Long days, but so worth it!

Above is my friend Destiny going in hard on her studies. I don’t know how she does it, but she usually study 6 to 7 hours a night, take a nap, then starts her day. Pure dedication.

Literally my best grade ever

For all the college students, I hope you guys did great on your finals. If you haven’t taken one yet, best of luck to you!

I’m no fool! Back to Grad school!

Hey everyone! I’m excited to tell you guys that im back in grad school. Since I’m working full time, I’m just only taking two classes. I should be able to maintain my social life. The plan is Friday nights and Saturdays will be dedicated to my social life. Back when I went to LSU, I attempted 18 credit hours of course work while trying to work and keep a girlfriend happy. Let’s just say I learned an important lesson on how to organize my time better and not to rush with getting to a goal.

The biggest reason for me going back is the people around me believing in me. Telling me I have the potential to get a PhD if I wanted too. That I may not feel like the brightest guy sometimes, but my work ethic is more than enough. The saying is true, if you surround yourself with great people, great things will happen. Thank you to all my co workers, family, friends and you guys for giving me the jolt I needed to continue.
